Dance Kerr & Dancers (DK&D) is a NYC/NJ based dance company founded by Brooklyn, NY native dance artist/educator Michael Kerr who has been self-producing his choreographic works since founding DK&D in 2015. DK&D has most recently become a A NJ nonprofit corporation with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3). Kerr's developing repertoire of dances are rooted in modern and contemporary dance techniques that play with the contrast of stillness and great physicality within the realm of dance expressionism. His dances are a by-product of the lived experience translated into DANCE, emulating internal struggles and successes; as well as other unexpected sources of inspiration.
DK&D strives to extend the experience of dance with inclusive workshops for all. Through education, the message of dance can be experienced as a kinesthetic-interdisciplinary way discovering self, others, and life within our shared world. DK&D will offer free community-building dance making projects for professional and non-professional adult members of the dance community. We also plan to offer after-school anti-bullying dance workshops for high schoolers interested in collaborating with like-minded peers to create and perform dance in a safe, nurturing, and non-judgmental creative environment. Inclusivity is important to us. DK&D is a LGBTQ+ safe space for members of the community and allies!
